What do David Morgan, the ABC and Newspapers have in common? They care most about climate change!
Top businesses executives tell all in exclusive survey
Wednesday, 22 August 2007: With a majority of people agreeing that the corporate world has an inherent responsibility in dealing with climate change, Business Climate International stepped in to ask the hard-hitting questions of senior executives.
The survey was conducted by Business Climate International to over 400 senior business people at a business function in Sydney on August 2nd.
Westpac was considered a runaway leader in taking on issues of climate change, with a staggering 50% of votes under its belt and CEO of Westpac David Morgan was most nominated (66%) as the senior executive most committed to addressing climate change issues.
The ABC and Newspapers are considered leaders in coverage of climate change issues, followed by Sky News’ Eco Report and the Internet.
Surprisingly, Channels 7, 9 and 10, as well as Radio received zero votes.
Two-thirds of the respondents felt that media does pay enough attention to climate change issues. The remaining 33.33% said that media should pay more attention.
The majority of respondents received their daily dose of eco-news from print media (newspapers) followed by the Internet (Google News) and Television (16.65% each).
In terms of regulation, it was a 50/50 split between who should address climate change – State or Federal government.
Half of the respondents wanted to see both levels of government be actively involved in initiatives to do with climate change. From this 50%, the initiatives they would like to see introduced were split between water, incentives for reducing levels and fines all neck and neck with a third of the votes each.
The respondents also indicated that government movements, organisations that operate sustainable businesses and metrics and impact of climate change were all issues which people would like to see more reporting on.
