Australian Prime Minister John Howard has signalled he will introduce limits on greenhouse gas emissions and introduce a carbon-trading scheme in Australia as part of a new initiative to combat climate change. News of the scheme came in his first online policy announcement, which also includes a A$336 million (S$445 million) plan to install solar hot water systems and rainwater tanks in schools. He also reasserted ‘We do not have to sacrifice our economic prosperity to tackle the problem.’
